Word 2000 Service Pack  

Issue: Word 2000 prompts you for a network user id and password when attempting to open .doc uploads.

Resolution: You are using the baseline Word 2000 install with no service release or service pack updates. Update your computer with the latest Office 2000 update.

Here's how:

1) Visit microsoft.com for the Service Pack 3 update.

2) Download and install the update.

3) Try opening the .doc document again.

Note: If downloading the update is not an option for your district then you can contact support to disable the proxy service which causes the network prompt. Disabling the proxy service is not recommended. When it is disabled opening uploaded documents triggers IE7's cross-site-scripting-attack detection and makes printing uploaded documents impossible.
